  • Gegr\u00fcndet im Jahre 1996 stehen Excelsis f\u00fcr Helvetic Folk Metal vom feinsten. Schon damals wurden Fl\u00f6te und Dudelsack eingesetzt, als die ganze Pagan -und Folkmetal Szene noch in den Kinderschuhe weilte!Die Emmentaler Drachent\u00f6ter, wie sie von den Fans und der Presse genannt werden,\u00a0 <\/span>supporteten Bands wie Eluveitie, In Extremo, Haggard, Korpiklaani, Finntroll, Skyclad, Accept, und viele mehr!\u00a0<\/span>Nach \u201evo Chrieger u Drache\u201c (2013) und \u201cTod u Verg\u00e4utig\u201c (2016), zieht jetzt auch \u201eBluetmond\u201c (2020) in die schweizer Hitparade auf Platz 32 ein.<\/strong>\n

    Zu Dudelsack, Schalmei und Fl\u00f6ten und kommen traditionelle Instrument wie das \u201eTalerschwinge\u201c und \u201eB\u00e4sechlopfe\u201c hinzu. Donnernde Schlagzeugsalven, schneidende Gitarrenriffs, fesselnde Keyboardkl\u00e4nge und der hemmungslose Gesang, der viele Textpassagen in und Schweizerdeutsch singt und schreit, katapultiert euch in andere Sph\u00e4ren und wird zur absoluten Live-Granate.<\/p>\n

    Seit 1992 spielen die schweizer Recken unter dem Namen Excelsis ihre untypischen Metal, der sich
    \ndamals irgendwo zwischen Powermetal und Folkmetal bewegte.
    \nNach vielen guten Feebacks und in grosser Nachfrage entstand 1996, das offizielle Gr\u00fcndungsjahr von
    \nExcelsis, das erste Album \u201cAnduin the River\u201d .\u00a0Schon damals, als die Folkmetal Szene noch in Kinderschuhen
    \nstand, kamen bei Excelsis schon metaluntypische \u00a0Instrumente wie Dudelsack, Fl\u00f6ten und Didgeridoos zu Einsatz.<\/p>\n

    Der im In- und Ausland grosse Erfolg, best\u00e4rkte die Band, den eingeschlagen Weg noch weiter zu gehen und
    \nsomit kam 1998 das Album \u201cKurt of Koppigen\u201d auf den Markt. Die Idee dieses Albums war, ausschliesslich
    \nSchweizer Geschichte aus der Umgebung zu vertonen. Zum ersten mal wurden auch Textpassagen in
    \nSchweizerdeutsch gesungen. Many Maurer, ehemaliges Mitglied der legend\u00e4ren Band Krokus, Aus-
    \nnahmemusiker und Ton-Studiobesitzer griff Excelsis bei den ersten zwei Album auch t\u00fcchtig unter
    \ndie Arme und gab dem Sound den n\u00f6tigen Power.
    \nDer Erfolg dieses Album war sogar noch gr\u00f6sser als das Debut-Album \u201cAnduin the River\u201d. Durch den
    \nweltweiten Vertrieb von Shark Records hagelte es an gute Reviews von Argentinien bis Japan.
    \nMit dem Song \u201cDragonslayer\u201d\u2018konnte man sogar am Rock-Hard Contest die Jury \u00fcberzeugen und
    \nsicherte sich einen Platz auf dem Iron Savior Album \u201cunification\u201d. In diversen Presseberichten wurde
    \ndie Band, betreffend dieses Songs, als \u201cdie Schweizer Drachent\u00f6ter\u201d betitelt.
    \nDiesen Namen tragen sie bis heute noch mit Stolz.<\/p>\n

    2001 kam das Album \u201cTales of Tell\u201d, welches \u00fcber die Abenteuer des schweizer Nationalhelden Wilhelm Tell berichtet,
    \nauf den Markt. Es wurde komplet in Eigenregie produziert. Bedingt durch die Low-Budget Produktion und dem
    \nfehlen eines Labels, blieb der Verkaufserfolg unter den Erwartungen. Dennoch etwickelten sich viele der
    \nSongs zu waren Live-Dauerbrennern.<\/p>\n

    Angespornt durch die Konzerterfolge, wurde weiter an neuen Songs gearbeitet und so erschien 2005
    \ndas Album \u201cthe Legacy of Sempach\u201d. Der Excelsis-typische Folkmetal Stil wurde konsequent weiter
    \nentwickelt ohne dabei die Wurzeln zu verlieren. Der daraus resultierende Longplayer behandelt eine
    \nweitere heldenhafte Etape der schweizer Geschichte.\u00a0Ver\u00f6ffentlicht wurde das Album \u00fcber
    \ndas Label Aurora Records.<\/p>\n

    Nach dieser langen Zeit, konnte man inzwischen auch diverse Konzerterfolge im In- und Ausland feiern.
    \nWie zu Beispiel zweimal am Metalcamp Open Air in Slovenien, End of Dayz Festival (CH), Metal Dayz(CH),
    \nEternity of Rock Open Air und Knight of the Cross Festival in Italien, sowie Rocktown Open Air und
    \nRockfabrik Ludwigsburg in Deutschland und vielen mehr.
    \nAn diesen Gigs teilten sie die B\u00fchne mit namhaften Bands wie, Accept, In Extremo, Schandmaul,
    \nHaggard, Rage, Svbway to Sally, Skyclad, Gurd, Dornenreich, Wintersun, Annihilator, Iron Savior,
    \nPertness, Hammerfall \u2026um hier nur einige zu nennen.<\/p>\n

    Bei durchst\u00f6bern der Archive der schweizer Geschichte, begeisterte die Band das schweizer S\u00f6ldnertum.
    \nAus diesen Geschichten formte sich das im Jahre 2008 erschienene Album \u201cStanding Stone\u201d.
    \nHelveltischer Heldenmut vereint mit folkmetalischen Kl\u00e4ngen, setzen einen weiteren Meilenstein im
    \nSchaffen von Excelsis. Durch die Bekanntschaft mit der sehr erfolgreichen Schweizer Band \u201cEluveitie\u201d
    \nkonnte man auf diesem Album den Frontmann Chrigel Glanzmann als Gastmusiker gewinnen, der bei
    \ndiversen Liedern das schaffen der Band mit seinen Fl\u00f6tenkl\u00e4ngen untermalte. Non Stop Music \u00fcbernahm
    \nden Vertrieb f\u00fcr diese CD im Inland und Twilight-Records weltweit.
    \nIn dieser Zeitspanne konnten diverse Konzerte mit Eluveitie, Korpiklaani, Finntroll, Black Messiah, Finsterforst,
    \nSamael, Heidefolk, Sepultura, Schandmaul, Blackguard, Vreid und vielen mehr, an diversen Festivals wie,
    \nFiesta Pagana, Eluveitie&Friends Festival, Forefathers Festival, Viking\/Pagan Festival etc. , bestritten
    \nwerden.<\/p>\n

    Aus experimenteller Freude entstand die eigens produzierte Akkustik EP \u201d E chly angeri Lieder\u201d die
    \n2010 auf den Mark kam. Der Verkaufserfolg \u00fcberaschte die Band und durch die Unterst\u00fczung von
    \nNon Stop Music wurde das Projekt zum Erfolg.<\/p>\n

    Die Entwicklung der Metal Szene in Richtung Folk und Pagan Metal best\u00e4rkte die Band ihrem Stil treu
    \nzu bleiben und zu vervollkommnen was sie 19 96 begonnen haben. Der Weg scheint nun geebent!
    \nDie professionelle Produktion von Christoph Brandes, vom Iguana-Studio (Necrophagist, Finsterforst, Unlight etc.)
    \nschmettert in unglaublicher brachialit\u00e4t das Album auf das n\u00e4chste Level.
    \nWiederum haben es die Jungs geschafft eine altehrw\u00fcrdige Geschichte von Jeremias Gotthelf mit ihrem
    \nStil zu vereinen. Donnerde Schlagzeugsalven und schneidende Gitarrenriffs werden von traditionellen
    \nInstrumenten erg\u00e4nzt. Der hemmungslose Gesang, oder wie Christoph Brandes treffend zitierte:
    \n\u201d Wilde M\u00e4nner mit Axt \u00fcber dem Kopf, Sch\u00e4delspaltend den Berg hinunter rennen\u201d, mit vielen
    \nberndeutschen Passagen, versetzt einem unweigerlich in eine Zeit der Krieger und Drachen.<\/p>\n

    • The Dragonslayers are back!<\/li>\n
    • Founded in 1996, Excelsis have always stood for the finest Helvetic Folk Metal. Back when Pagan Metal\u00a0hadn\u2019t even been thought of, they already incorporated flutes and bagpipes into their songs.<\/li>\n
    • Excelsis won the Rock Hard band contest during the Iron Savior \u201eAtlantis Falling\u201c Tour in 1988. This in turn assured them further exposure by allowing them to showcase their musical prowess on the Iron Savior album \u201cUnification\u201d and led to them being nicknamed the \u201cSwiss Dragonslayers\u201d for the first time.<\/li>\n
    • More than 4000 sold copies of their album \u201eKurt of Koppigen\u201c in Germany alone.<\/li>\n
    • Concerts at home as well as abroad, including such prestigious festivals as Metalcamp (SL), End of Dayz Festival (CH) and Knight of the Cross Festival (IT).<\/li>\n
    • The Dragonslayers have supported such well known acts Eluveitie, In Extremo, Haggard, Korpiklaani, Finntroll and many more.<\/li>\n
    • Now, years later and following their previous 6 albums which all but one, their first, were based on historical events in Switzerland, their 7th<\/sup> album is about to be unleashed on an unsuspecting public. Besides the afore-mentioned flutes and bagpipes, the album also features violin, shargia, accordion, mouth harp (played by former vice world champion Marco Bandera) as well as more traditional instruments such as \u201cTalerschwinge\u201d (rolling coins around a bowl) and \u201cB\u00e4sechlopfe\u201d (broom stick playing). Thundering drums, axe wielding guitar riffs, atmospheric keyboards and a we-take-no-prisoner vocal approach with part of the lyrics sung in the local Swiss-German language will propel the listener into unknown spheres.<\/li>\n

      Biography “LONG” English:<\/h3>\n

      Excelsis Biography<\/p>\n

      These guys from Switzerland, known as Excelsis, have been playing their very own brand of Metal
      \nsince 1992. Back then it was a fine blend of Power and Folk Metal. Following some very positive
      \nfeedback and great demand, the guys recorded their first album \u201cAnduin in the River\u201d in 1996,
      \nwhich also counts as the official founding year of Excelsis. Even at a time when Folk Metal was
      \nstill in its infancy Excelsis started using non-typical metal instruments, such as bagpipes,
      \nflutes and didgeridoos.<\/p>\n

      Their success at home as well as abroad led the band to continue on their path and release
      \ntheir second album \u201cKurt of Koppigen\u201d in 1998. It was the band\u2019s intent to release an album
      \nbased on local history and legend. For the first time, lyrics in Swiss German were incorporated
      \ninto their songs. Many Maurer, former member of Krokus, exceptional musician and owner of a
      \nrecording studio, helped the band with their first two albums and made sure the sound had the
      \nrequired power. The success of the sophomore album was even bigger than for their debut.
      \nWith their worldwide distribution deal with Shark Records, good reviews from Argentina to
      \nJapan kept flooding in. The song \u201cDragonslayer\u201d also impressed the jury of the Rock Hard Contest
      \nand allowed the band to include the song on Iron Savior\u2019s album \u201cUnification\u201d.
      \n\u201cThe Swiss Dragonslayers\u201d was a name that popped up in several press clippings and has stuck
      \nwith the band ever since. To this day, the guys wear it with pride.<\/p>\n

      In 2001, the album \u201cTales of Tell\u201d about the Swiss national hero William Tell was released.
      \nIt was self-produced by the band from start to finish. Due to the low budget approach and the
      \nlack of a distribution deal, its success was limited. Nonetheless, quite a number of songs
      \nremain live staples to this day.<\/p>\n

      Motivated by their live success, the band continued to work on new songs and thus released
      \n\u201cThe Legacy of Sempach\u201d in 2005. The typical Excelsis Folk Metal was further developed
      \nwithout losing touch with their roots. The resulting new album tells the story of another
      \nheroic event in Swiss history. Aurora Records released the album.<\/p>\n

      Finally the band could also play several larger gigs at home and abroad, amongst them two
      \nappearances at Metalcamp Open Air (Slovenia) End of Dayz Festival (CH), Metal Dayz (CH),
      \nEternity of Rock Open Air and Night of the Cross Festival (both in Italy), as well as
      \nRocktown Open Air and Rockfabrik Ludwigsburg in Germany. They shared stages with Accept,
      \nIn Extremo, Schandmaul, Haggard, Rage, Subway to Sally, Skyclad, Gurd, Dornenreich,
      \nWintersun, Annihilator, Iron Savior, Pertness, Hammerfall \u2026 just to name a few.<\/p>\n

      Having searched archives of Swiss history, the band developed a keen interest in Swiss
      \nmercenaries. Using these stories, they produced the album \u201cStanding Stone\u201d which was
      \nreleased in 2008. Helvetic heroics combined with Folk Metal sounds set a new high point
      \nin the band\u2019s career. Thanks to their good relationship with the successful Swiss
      \nband \u201cEluveitie\u201d, they could convince Chrigel Glanzmann to appear as guest musician on
      \nthe album. Non Stop Music released the album in Switzerland while Twilight Records obtained
      \nthe distribution deal for the rest of the world. At the time several concerts were played
      \nwith bands such as Eluveitie, Korpiklaani, Finntroll, Black Messiah, Finsterforst, Samael,
      \nHeidefolk, Sepultura, Schandmal, Blackguard, Vreid and others at such festivals as
      \nFiesta Pagana, Eluveitie & Friends, Forefathers Festival, Viking\/Pagan Festival and others.<\/p>\n

      Simply because the band wanted to try something different they released the self produced
      \nacoustic EP \u201cE cly angeri Lieder\u201d in 2010. The album, which was once again distributed
      \nby Non Stop Music, proved a success, which took the band by surprise.<\/p>\n

      With the continued success of Folk and Pagan Metal worldwide the band decided to stick to
      \ntheir guns and continue on the path they set off on in 1996. The band\u2019s brand new album
      \nreceived a professional production by Christoph Brandes at Iguana Studios
      \n(Necrophagist, Finsterforst, Unlight, etc.) and moves the sound to the next level with
      \nits unbelievable brutality. Once again the band successfully combined a story by
      \nJeremias Gotthelf with their very own brand of metal. Thundering drums and ear splitting
      \nguitar riffs are complimented with more traditional instruments. The brutal singing, or as
      \nChristoph Brandes described it \u201cwild men with axes over their heads, running down the hills
      \nintent to split some heads\u201d, with a number of passages in Bernese Swiss German, takes one
      \ninevitably back to the times of warriors and dragons.<\/p>\n

      Get ready for future live battles with the new album and pay the band their dues they deserve.<\/p>\n
